ICGN 2025 Awards Spotlight Global Best Practices in Stewardship and Corporate Governance

The International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) is proud to announce the winners of the ICGN Awards 2025, celebrating excellence in stewardship and corporate governance across the global investment community. These awards highlight organisations, teams, and individuals who exemplify the principles of corporate governance and stewardship. A record number of nominations was received this year, and a global shortlist of nominees was created by the ICGN Awards Committee and reviewed by independent judging panels. After careful consideration, the following winners were presented with their Awards on 1 December in a ceremony at 116 Pall Mall, London.

Michael Herskovich, Chair of the ICGN Board of Governors, said: “We are proud to honour David Pitt-Watson with the ICGN Lifetime Achievement Award. His pioneering work on the purpose of finance and responsible business, and his valued service on the ICGN Board, have left a lasting mark.”

Anne-Marie Jourdan, Chair of the ICGN Awards Committee, said: “On behalf of the ICGN Awards Committee, I congratulate all shortlisted nominees and winners. Their innovative work in governance, stewardship, and reporting stands out in a fast-changing policy landscape. We are pleased to recognise their achievements today.”

Jen Sisson, ICGN CEO, said: “Congratulations to all shortlisted nominees and winners. Your work strengthens the impact of investor stewardship and supports ICGN’s mission to drive improvements in corporate governance around the world.”

The ICGN Global Stewardship Disclosure Awards recognise excellence in stewardship disclosure reporting by ICGN asset owner or asset manager members that best embodies the five principles set out in the ICGN Global Stewardship Principles:

  • Stewardship commitment
  • Robust governance
  • Monitoring and engagement
  • Voting and other ownership rights
  • Public policy advocacy

Asset Owners – £60 billion and above AUM Winner: British Columbia Investment Management Corporation Recognised for innovative reporting on climate, human capital, and responsible AI priorities, strong global advocacy, and demonstrating that a condensed report can still be comprehensive.

Asset Owners – Under £60 billion AUM Winner: Permodalan Nasional Berhad Recognised for producing an outstanding stewardship report that demonstrates a commitment to collaborative engagement and responsible investment practices. Their efforts to unite like-minded partners for sustainable investment and enhance market practices stand out, particularly in a region where stewardship reporting is still emerging.

Asset Managers – £60 billion and above AUM Winner: Nordea Asset Management Commended for a robust stewardship report that reflects strong integration across its investment structure. The report highlights significant engagement with regulators and detailed responses to public consultations, underscoring Nordea’s commitment to impactful stewardship and transparency.

Asset Managers – Under £60 billion AUM Winner: Sands Capital Management, LLC Acknowledged for a comprehensive and granular stewardship report, including a clear mission and purpose, detailed voting policies, and thorough conflict-of-interest scenarios. Their vendor policy and discussion of service providers further demonstrate robust transparency.

Commendation: LBP AM Recognised for its “GREaT Strategy” and proactive approach, including pre-declared votes and written AGM questions. Their commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability management and investor initiatives reinforces their dedicated role.

The ICGN Achievement Awards recognise excellence in corporate governance and stewardship for individuals, teams, or organisations:

Excellence in Corporate Governance Award Individual: Marta Viegas 2 Honoured for pioneering governance improvements in debt instruments, creating a corporate governance function, and leading a high-performing team that enhanced governance across 500 transactions in 26 countries.

Rising Star Award Winner: Enobong Shittu Recognised as a visionary governance professional transforming perceptions of corporate governance in Africa. Her work demonstrates that governance is a strategic advantage for early and growth-stage enterprises, not merely a regulatory requirement.

Lifetime Achievement Award Winner: David Pitt-Watson Honoured as one of the most influential pioneers of responsible investment and stewardship.
